Review of 2022 Curriculum Changes & Exam Transitions


There can be a lot of questions surrounding the SOA syllabus changes for 2022/2023. If you have already attained your ASA, congratulations! These changes have no impact on your status, and you need not be too concerned about them unless you have an ASA candidate reporting to you. However, if you have not yet attained your ASA, then you need to become familiar with the changes and develop a strategy for responding to them that makes sense for you.

For those that are impacted, below you'll find a consolidated list of information per exam and what to do based on when you would like to sit for either the current or new exams.

Exam P

  • If you are taking Exam P:
    • Purchase the new material that is now available for ACTEX/ASM, using the link(s) at the top of this section.

Exam FM

  • If you are taking Exam FM:
    • Purchase the new material that is now available for ACTEX/ASM, using the link(s) at the top of this section.

Exam FAM/FAM-S/FAM-L

  • If you are taking Exam FAM/FAM-S/FAM-L:
    • Purchase the new material that is now available for ACTEX/ASM, using the link(s) at the top of this section.

Exam ASTAM and ALTAM

What to do if:

  1. You are planning to sit for ASTAM or ALTAM in Spring 2023:
    1. The draft syllabus was announced by the SOA here: ASA Pathway Changes and Transition Information | SOA
    2. We have started working with ACTEX and ASM authors to develop study material expected to be available in Fall 2022.
      1. If you want to start preparing today, our current STAM and LTAM study manuals cover approximately 90% of the FAM, ASTAM and ALTAM syllabus.

Exam ATPA

What to do if:

  1. You are planning to sit for ATPA in June 2022:
    1. The final syllabus has been announced by the SOA here: Exam ATPA - Advanced Topics in Predictive Analytics
    2. A video course by Professor Johnny Li, PhD, FSA is now available for Exam ATPA! See the link at the top of this section.

ACTEX/ASM Conditional Pass Guarantee

If you have purchased the ACTEX or ASM Study Manual for sittings before the new exams are set to start (September 2022 for P and October 2022 for FM), and do not receive a passing score, you will be supported from the old syllabus to the new!


  1. If the original purchase was a 6-month license, and the Pass Guarantee has already been activated towards an exam sitting for the current syllabus:
    1. A student must sit for an exam based around the current syllabus and receive a non-passing score.
    2. Students are eligible to receive a one-time 6-month Transitional Pass Guarantee to the upcoming P and FM syllabus starting September/October 2022.
    3. No further extensions are available, regardless of whether the students sit for the Fall 2022 exams starting September/October 2022.

  2. If the original purchase was a 6-month license for the current syllabus (any sitting available until the September/October 2022 have started):
    1. A student must sit for an exam based around the current syllabus and receive a non-passing score.
    2. Students are eligible to receive a one-time 6-month Transitional Pass Guarantee to the upcoming P and FM syllabus starting September/October 2022.
    3. Students who do not receive a passing score on the September/October 2022 P or FM exam sittings are eligible for a one time 6-month Pass Guarantee.
      1. 6-month license will start at the time the Pass Guarantee is requested.
    4. No further extensions are available.

  3. If the original purchase was a 12-Month License or Print Copy, regardless of whether the Pass Guarantee has been used:
    1. A student must sit for an exam based around the current syllabus and receive a non-passing score.
    2. Students are eligible for a 6-month Transitional Pass Guarantee to the upcoming P and FM syllabus starting September/October 2022.
      1. i. Standard unlimited 6-Month Pass Guarantee rules will apply. (Unlimited 6-Month Pass Guarantee to the new syllabus of P and FM).

If you have purchased the ACTEX or ASM Study Manual for the Exam LTAM or STAM Spring 2022 sitting, and do not receive a passing score, you will be supported from the Spring 2022 sitting through the Fall 2022 FAM exam sitting!


  1. If the original purchase was a 6-month license, and the Pass Guarantee has already been activated toward the Spring 2022 exam sitting:
    1. A student must sit for the Spring 2022 exam, and receive a non-passing score.
    2. Students are eligible to recieve a one-time 6-month Transitional Pass Guarantee to the upcoming FAM study manual for the Fall 2022 sitting.
    3. No further extensions are available, regardless of whether the students sit for the Fall 2022 exam.

  2. If the original purchase was a 6-month license for the Spring 2022 sitting (The first sitting available after purchase):
    1. A student must sit for the Spring 2022 exam, and receive a non-passing score.
    2. Students are eligible to receive a one-time 6-month Transitional Pass Guarantee to the upcoming FAM study manual for the Fall 2022 sitting.
    3. Students who do not receive a passing score on the Fall 2022 FAM exam siting are eligible for a one time 6-month Pass Guarantee for the February 2023 sitting of Exam FAM.
    4. No further extensions are available, regardless of whether the students sit for the February 2023 Exam.

  3. If the original purchase was a 12-Month License or Print Copy, regardless of whether the Pass Guarantee has been used:
    1. A student must sit for the Spring 2022 exam sitting, and receive a non-passing score.
    2. Students are eligible for a 6-Month Transitional Pass Guarantee for the Fall 2022 FAM exam sitting.
      1. Standard unlimited 6-Month Pass Guarantee rules will apply. (Unlimited 6-Month Pass Guarantee to FAM as long as students sit for each available exam sitting and receive a non-passing score.)
